On August 22nd, 2026, Jin Yangping’s solo exhibition “Inner Landscapes” opened in THE FIELD Gallery Beijing. In his recent series of works the 1970s-born painter focuses on the human body as a metaphor to our current times and momentum for our society.
Artists have always been known for opening up new perspectives for us through the contemplation of their works, thereby inspiring reflection. Jin Yangping does this in a most striking way in his current series ‘Inner Landscapes’, by reflecting on recent events and the manifested attitudes of people in public life. Through a painterly introspection focused on the body, Jin has been researching on how today’s current situation which is constantly being mirrored in our habits and structures of life.
By presenting sequences of images on the wall and objects installed throughout the space, the artist guides the viewer via various stages towards a holistic whole. The walkthrough Jin Yangping’s solo exhibition is the condition to receiving the insight into the artist’s conclusion.
With masterful painterly passion, he offers a view of our here and now that is as timely as it is incisive. The colours on the canvas, their gradients and their multi-layered surfaces form a web of thought and grace: much like a guiding thread from the artist, this exhibition sets new standards in painting and can be seen as a guide to a better understanding of our society.
The exhibition setup shows a combination of paintings on the walls and objects placed in the space in a concluding installation. Some of the objects capture our view also through their over dimensional size, like a nude lying on the side in in 2,2 meter or a 3 meter high view on a human figure which almost slides into abstraction. It is through a walkthrough from one piece to the other that the viewer can understand the general idea which represents the concept of the artist.
Jin Yangping serves himself in a versatile way of different media and techniques which he masterfully manages to combine. Most important as the key to the understanding of his message is always the technique of painting which is applied in a particular way: As if illuminated from behind, the superimposed layers of colour come to the fore. Through his technique – which begins with the application of large-scale forms using a palette knife and progresses to the treatment of surfaces with multiple colours simultaneously – he creates a dazzling image that blends abstract forms with representational content.
His paintings appeal to the viewer first and foremost through their colours, which have been mysteriously layered upon one another, rendering the individual colours no longer recognisable.
In this series of works for his solo exhibition at THE FIELD Gallery in Beijing, the human body—in its forms and expressions of tension, ecstasy and tranquillity—takes centre stage. Through this metaphor, Jin Yangping paints a picture of our times and our society, without adopting a judgemental stance in his paintings.
After a long period of observing Jin Yangping and his work development this first solo exhibition in the newly restored space marks the beginning of the collaboration between the 1970 born painter and THE FIELD. Jin Yangping opens up the program of the gallery to a specific level of painting related with a strong motivation behind.
