PENG SI   彭 斯


Born in Hengyang, Hunan in 1980, Peng Si graduated from the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2004 and currently lives and works in Beijing. His practice shifted from his well-known explorations in classical painting to a mode of free creation centered on personal perception, moving away from art historical references toward the observation and transformation of nature. Prompted by the hidden connections between natural forms and painting, he began to draw directly on bodily and intuitive experience, translating these sensations into his work, which is deeply informed by his understanding of the perceptual quality of “brushwork”.

1980年出生于湖南衡阳，2004 年毕业于中央美术学院版画系，现生活工作于北京。使彭斯从大家所熟知的对古典绘画领域的探索，从而转向以自身感知为主体的自由创作，脱离了对绘画史的关注而转向对自然的观察与转化。自然物与绘画中隐匿的联系提示了艺术家，从此他开始倚靠自己身体与直觉的感知，并把这些感受诉诸画面，使其作品蕴含艺术家对“笔意”这一知觉的深度理解。
