LI ZHAN 李 展
Born in Jinan, Shandong Province. He received his BFA from the First Studio, Department of Sculpture, Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2008; his MFA from the Department of Sculpture, Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2013; and his PhD from the Institute of Plastic Arts, Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2017. He is currently an associate professor and MA supervisor at Department of Sculpture, Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Li Zhan is obsessed with the organic medium of wood, defining sculpture as “a confrontation of forces with the subject.” This confrontation includes both the physical act of carving and a profound dialogue with the essence of the material. Breaking the homogeneous order of traditional sculpture, he constructs open spaces through hollowing and planar elements, integrating architecture with bodily perception. By controlling the relative relationship between scale and space, his works embody the restrained aesthetics of traditional wood carving as well as the expressive tension of modern sculpture.

李展痴迷于 " 木 " 的有机媒介，将雕塑定义为 " 与对象进行力的对抗 "——这种对抗既包含物理层面的雕刻行为，也是与材料本质的深层对话。李展打破传统雕塑的均质化秩序，
以镂空、片状等元素构建开放空间，实现建筑与人体感知的融合。他把控尺度与空间的相对关系，让作品兼具传统木雕的克制美学与现代雕塑的冲突性表达。
